Ghana: Upper West should make the best out of the Youth and Sports centre

Mr Isaac Asiamah, minister for Youth and Sports, has called on the youth of Wa and it’s environs, to make good use of the multipurpose youth and sports resource centre being constructed at Wa to harness their talent for mother Ghana, when completed.

Mr. Asiamah, who is on an inspection tour at the centre, said the Akuffo Addo led Government was keen on providing the youth of Ghana, the avenue to nurture their talents by providing sporting amenities nationwide.

This, he said, would go a long way to alleviate idleness and curb social vices.

“I am happy that government is intervening in the provision of sporting facilities here to help nurture the youth of Upper West.

“There abound a lot of talents here, but there has not been the facilities to unearth and exhibit those talents, so I believe this has come at the right time for the people here to enjoy this modern sporting facilities being put up here.

“This is the time for the youth to eschew social vices and enjoy this facility, which would could host both indoor and outdoor sporting events, which could win laurels for the country in the future” he said.

In an interview with GNA Sports, Mr Hamidu Chinia Issshaku, Deputy Regional Minister for Upper West said, as a Government there was the need to promote youth development and one way to do that was the creation of modern sporting facilities.

“This multipurpose youth and resource centre would help the youth to develop their capacity in so many ways to the benefit of Ghana in the future.

“There are so many talent going waste in the region due to the lack of sporting infrastructure but with what the government is putting up, Upper West would provide future champions for the nation.

The multipurpose Youth and Sports Resource centre, when completed would have a FIFA standard football playing pitch, tartan tracks, volley ball pitch, basketball pitch, handball pitch, ICT centre, entrepreneursip centre, counselling centre and modern restaurants among others.

Protect state assets – Minister of Youth and Sports urges Ghanaians

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has urged Ghanaians to see themselves as part of the government and help protect state assets.

He said as the government continued to equip institutions in spite of the limited resources available as a country, it was incumbent on the citizens to “safeguard the few logistics that we have”.

The minister made the call at the weekend when he donated four brand new motorbikes, four hospital beds and a delivery bed to the Nyinahini Health Directorate in the Atwima Mponua Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

The beneficiary health centres are Debra Camp Health Centre, Saakrom Health Centre, Gyereso Health Centre, Sereso Tinpom and Nagoole Health Centres, all in the Nyinahin District.

The minister, who doubles as the MP for Atwima Mponua, also donated a flat screen television set to the directorate to be used by staff and pregnant women who accessed the maternity ward at the Nyinahin District Hospital.

Mr Asiamah hinted that the Ministry of Health, under the leadership of Mr Kwaku Agyemang Manu, would soon build a modern 150-bed capacity hospital complex for the district, and assured the people that the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government was leaving no stone unturned in addressing the challenges of the people as promised.


The Medical Superintendent at the Nyinahin District Hospital, Dr Adu Gyamfi, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary health centres, thanked the MP for the assistance.

He assured him that the items would be put to good use and added that it would help in enhancing quality health delivery in the area.

He used the opportunity to appeal to the government to provide the district with more motorbikes in order to reach out to residents who lived in the remotest parts of the district.

Present at the event were the DCE for the Atwima Mponua District Assembly, Mr William Darko, and Mr George Kwadwo Kyei, the Atwima Mponua District Health Director.

DJ Cuppy’s benevolent heart has been recognised as she has been named a new ambassador for the international non-governmental organisation, Save The Children, UK. The billionaire heiress announced this on her Twitter page on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. According to her, she also joins the African advisory board of the NGO.

“So proud to be announced as the newest Ambassador of @SaveChildrenUK and also to join as a member on the African Advisory Board! Looking forward to working around the continent to save children’s lives… #CuppyCares,” she tweeted.

DJ Cuppy’s latest achievement isn’t coming as a surprise because it is well known of her benevolent heart. She has impacted a lot in society by giving back and helping people in need.
